Meet the Staff
Chelsa Peterson Program Specialist
Chelsa Peterson, grew up in the Athens area. She attended Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and received her BS in Music Industry Studies and BA in Vocal Performance. After college she moved to Chicago and worked for the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Ravinia Festival, Steans Music Institute and Midwest Young Artists. In the spring of 2013 Chelsa moved back to Athens to work at ARTS/West and to be closer to her family. When Chelsa is not working she sings in two local choirs, plays with her rescue dog Guinness, and enjoys all that life has to offer. [email protected] Janice Evans Events Coordinator Janice has a theatre arts background and is a founding member of Brick Monkey Theater Ensemble here in Athens. She’s appeared in several BMTE staged readings and played Mrs. Cratchit in “An Appalachian Christmas Carol”. Janice also participates in an annual reading of Confessions of a Reluctant Caregiver, by Merri Biechler, at OUHCOM for 2nd year medical students; and she currently serves on the West Arts Council for Children, a group of parents and teachers who work to expand the arts programming at West Elementary. At ARTS/West Janice handles rentals for classes, play productions, concerts, and a wide variety of special events; and assists with publicity, youth outreach and other larger ARTS/West events and projects. She’s happy to be surrounded by such creative people, and enjoys long walks and camping with family & friends. [email protected] Kelly Lawrence Events Coordinator Originally from the small town of Waverly, Ohio. She came to Athens in 1983 to study fine arts at Ohio University; receiving her BFA in Sculpture in 1990. Kelly owns her own art business, Green Mantle Studio, and is the Vice President for both the Athens Art Guild and the Athens County Women's Art Guild. At ARTS/West she organizes Ratha Con: Athens Own Pop Culture Convention; Spectacular! Spectacular! (our Steampunk fair); the Athens Area Fiber Faire; she is the curator for the gallery space, and conducts the yearly membership drive. Kelly lives on the West Side of Athens with her son, a dog, and a cat. [email protected] Emily Beveridge Events Coordinator After arriving in Athens in 2002 as an Ohio University student, Emily Beveridge has been involved with the local art scene. She has served as an Americorps VISTA, written and received Ohio Arts Council grants, and shown her own artwork continuously in the region. In 2008, Beveridge organized her first Cat's Pajamas Clothing Exchange, an annual fundraiser for ARTS/West that is still held every year. Since 2010, she has been an artist in residence at The Dairy Barn Arts Center, working at their summer art camp, and providing art enrichment activities for area public schools. Starting in 20014, she has worked for ARTS/West as an Events Coordinator. She is especially proud to have her art hang every year at ARTS/West during Athens Rock Camp for Girls.
